Plymouth Parent Carer Voice
Providing help, information to SEND families, when it's needed.
PPCV is Plymouth’s official parent carer forum. We are a group of volunteer parents and carers of children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). Together we work in partnership with our local authority, to help shape and improve the range of services in education, health and social care for families in the Plymouth area.
Parent Carer Forums like PPCV are run by volunteers and funded with a grant from the Department for Education (DfE). We receive this and other forms of support from ‘Contact’, who work in partnership with the DfE. We are a member of the National Network of Parent Carer Forums (NNPCF) from whom we receive regular guidance and support.
We believe that having parents involved in this process gives them a voice and helps create an environment that leads to better understanding, equity and cooperation between SEND families and professionals. SEND families know what works for them and perhaps more importantly, what doesn’t. This is a valuable resource for professionals, offering them a better understanding of the needs of SEND families and increasing their awareness of just how much the choices they make, affects the lives of vulnerable young people and their families.

Plymouth Parent Care Voice currently has a small core team who guide the overall direction of the forum. Each member has specific knowledge and experience in a particular area of SEND. Steering group members all have children with additional needs, ranging from pre-school age to young adults. This ensures we maintain current knowledge and have a range of perspectives and experiences to draw on. PPCV represents the needs of families who have children and young people with SEND, aged from birth to 25.GET INVOLVED
PPCV parent members aim to represent all local parent carers by working alongside and in partnership with the local authority, professionals and support services. We are involved in the planning, co-production and execution of new local services and are able to have a voice in how UK-wide government changes are applied locally. By offering flexible involvement, we provide the opportunity for parents to join in and be involved as much or as little as they would like.
