Inspection of Plymouth SEND Services by Ofsted and CQC

Inspection of Plymouth SEND Services by Ofsted and CQC

On Monday 12th June 2023, Plymouth City Council received a phone call from Ofsted to say that their inspection has begun. This means that Ofsted and the Care Quality Commission (CQC) will be visiting Plymouth to inspect the local arrangements for children and young people with special education needs and disabilities (SEND).

Why is this important to me and my family?

If you have a child or young person with SEND, it is likely that you have (or should have!) access to and support from many of the education, health and care services. Sometimes, these services work really well in providing the right support that is needed in an accessible way. Sometimes, things don’t work well and it is really hard and frustrating to find someone to listen to your difficulties. This is your opportunity to let the services know what is working well and what improvements are needed to support Plymouth families.

What happens now?
Over the next 2 weeks, there will be behind the scene investigations by Ofsted and the CQC through online meetings with various organisations who are responsible for supporting families of children and young people with SEND.
On week 3, the Ofsted team will visit Plymouth.

Can I share my experience?

YES! We need it.

You and your family (over the age of 11 years) are strongly encouraged to feedback your experience. There are separate online surveys for children and young people, parents and carers, and practitioners.  There are easy-read versions and the opportunity to have the questions read to you by clicking a sound icon.

How do I share my experiences of Plymouth services for SEND?
If you need the survey in any other format, please get in touch and we will do our very best to help you.

How can I keep up to date about the inspection?

PPCV has now emailed all the registered members of PPCV informing them directly about the inspection. We strongly encourage you to take a few minutes to follow the link in the email to the Ofsted survey.

Links to the Ofsted survey are being widely circulated on our social media platforms: Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. You can keep up-to-date and informed by following any of those pages.

Your child or young person’s school or setting should also inform you about the inspection and what you can do to take part.

Will I get the chance to talk to an inspector?
We have not heard from the inspectors if they have the capacity to meet face-to-face with families during the third week. PPCV will be requesting a meeting for parents when we meet them online next week. We will let you know as soon as we have anything confirmed one way or the other.
