Notes from our meeting – 3rd November 2021

It was great to see everyone at our Coffee and Cake with PPCV virtual meeting at 10:00 am on Wednesday 3rd November.

Claire welcomed everyone and explained that PPCV is in the privileged position to be able to arrange themed meetings with guest speakers in relation to SEND in Plymouth. Not only are we looking for future Coffee & Cake meetings, but also ideas for speakers at our 2022 SEND & Celebration Conference.

Ideas shared for future Coffee & Cake meetings/SEND & Celebration 2022

Ideas for future meetings shared during discussions included:

  • A speaker with a specialism in sensory processing;
  • Alyson Mountjoy who specialises in APD (Auditory Processing Disorder);
  • Information about William Syndrome;
  • A speaker who can support parents with information about the teenage years;
  • An influential person to speak to teenagers about getting through the teenage years;
  • CAHMS.

The Mayor of Plymouth has expressed an interest in attending a meeting. When we have a date, KR will publicise it and collect questions from groups. (This approach appeared to work well with the Direct Payments meeting as we were able to ask questions on behalf of others who were unable to attend.)

It was asked whether someone could make a presentation about groups available for children/teenagers to access (for example, to help redirect distress behaviours, to encourage social groups, etc.) There is currently no-one who pulls together such groups, so this could be a job for PPCV in the future. In the meantime, KR will continue to add local groups to the website as and when information becomes available.

Auditory Processing Disorder

A website regarding APD was recommended by NJ at the meeting: https://apdsupportuk.yolasite.com/ KR will make a link available on the PPCV website and via social media posts.

Next Meeting

10:00 on Wednesday 17th November. Hope to see you there!
